The popularity of New Zealand wines in nearly all export markets has grown by leaps and bounds during the past few years. Exports have increased 200% in the last three years – not least because of New Zealand’s reputation for ecologically-friendly viticulture and for products that offer extremely good value for money.
The top-rated wines are especially difficult to obtain in export markets because demand far exceeds supply. Potential logistical problems, particularly because of the distance involved, also put local importers at a disadvantage. To date, these factors have prevented many European importers from adding New Zealand wines to their portfolios.
